The Pyeroy Group has boosted its marine sector operations with the appointment of a new divisional director.

Kevon Daymond, 41, joins the Gateshead-based firm as the marine services director for the South West of England.

He has spent more than 25 years working in the UK marine industry, where his experience spans a wide range of MoD and commercial refits as well as new ship building contracts.

A key part of the expanding Marine Services Division, Kevon Daymond’s primary task will be the management of its existing South West operations, which include access and painting services, while developing the business at Pyeroy’s new Devonport-based regional office.

The move follows a number of recent successes for Pyeroy at Devonport Dockyard, including the supply of scaffold access and containment systems to support a major refit programme for the Royal Navy submarine HMS Vigilant and a large contract to provide support services on the refit of the frigate HMS Chatham.

The Marine Services Division is also in line to secure new business worth millions of pounds working as part of the team building the Royal Navy’s new generation of aircraft carriers.

If successful, the contract is likely to last seven years and will create or maintain hundreds of jobs within Scotland, the North East of England and Portsmouth.

Pyeroy marine director Jack Hayton said: “Kevon’s appointment is major coup for us and he will be a key asset as we look to grow our presence in Devonport and other yards in the South West.

“He has considerable experience and a strong track record in winning new business and managing major contracts - attributes vital in helping us to develop the business further on the back of our reputation for delivering excellence and added value service to the marine market.”
