Royal Navy Queen Elizabeth Class aircraft carriers
Client: Ministry of Defence Main Contractor: BAE Systems Surface Ships Limited Work: Pyeroy has formed a joint venture with Cape Industrial Services Limited called Ship Support Services to provide access and specialist coatings services for the Royal Navy’s new generation of aircraft carriers. Pyeroy is undertaking blasting, specialist containment and providing coatings’ application to what will be the largest and most powerful warships ever to set sail for the Royal Navy.
Forth rail bridge
Client: Network Rail Main Contractor: Balfour Beatty Work: The Forth Rail Bridge, with its 54,000 tons of steel held together by 6.5 million rivets, is being hand painted by Pyeroy as part of a ten year rolling civil engineering and structural refurbishment programme. Specific requirements include the abrasive blasting of the structure to SA 2½ standard and the application of primer (50um), glass flake (400um normal/800um splash zone) and polyurethane (50um) coatings.
Tower bridge
Client: City of London Main Contractor: Pyeroy Group Work: Pyeroy was a awarded a large four year contract for the refurbishment of London’s Tower Bridge, requiring full access and containment services in conjunction with blasting and painting operations
Royal Navy & Royal Fleet Auxiliary vessels
Client: Ministry of Defence (N) Main Contractor: Babcock Marine, BAE Systems, Cammell Lairds Work: Pyeroy has provided scaffolding services to Rosyth Royal Dockyard to support the major refits of Royal Navy and Royal Fleet Auxiliary ships. Pyeroy has worked on more than 75% of the fleet providing external and internal scaffold access, containment and repainting services to eight of the UK;s naval dockyards.
Tyne Bridge
Client: Newcastle City Council Main Contractor: Pyeroy Group Work: Major refurbishment programme undertaken without bridge closure. Pyeroy responsible for scaffolding, containment, structural repairs, cleaning, repainting, traffic management and pest control.
Victoria railway station, London
Client: Network Rail Main Contractor: May Gurney Pyeroy Work: Pyeroy is re-painting the roof and lower level canopies at the Grade II listed building. The busy station will remain open during the work and Pyeroy is encapsulating the scaffold systems and abrasive blast cleaning of the arched roof trusses. This will be followed by a new coatings system comprising epoxy primer, glass flake epoxy hi-build and urethane acrylic topcoat to provide extended protection of the roof structure over for the next 25 years.
Simon Storage
Client: Simon Storage Main Contractor: Pyeroy Group Work: Applying specialist protective coatings to various chemical, fuel and biodiesel storage tanks at the Simon Storage bulk liquids and gas storage facility at Seal Sands. The work involved the blast cleaning of internal surfaces and the application of coatings to over 4,500 sq m of metalwork.
Construction and project management
Client: Heighley Gate Garden Centre Main Contractor: Pyeroy Group Work: Building a £4 million extension to double retail space and create new office accommodation and staff facilities. Pyeroy’s external work including provision of new road access and entrance arrangements and car and coach partaking for 500 vehicles.
Lighthouses
Client: Northern Lighthouse Board Main Contractor: Pyeroy Group Work: A rolling programme of repainting and preventative maintenance on eight lighthouses around the coastline of Scotland and the Isle of Man including the remote Muckle Flugga Lighthouse on the Island of Unst in Shetland.
Power
Client: E.ON Main Contractor: Pyeroy Group Work: A £1.3 million contract to refurbish an offshore platform at the Isle of Grain Power Station in Kent, operated by E.ON - one of the UK’s largest power and gas companies – was completed by Pyeroy’s Environmental Division. Operating from two floating barges, a specially trained team, including dive and marine experts, completed the work to extend the platform’s working life for at least another 25 years.
Craigievar Castle
Client: The National Trust for Scotland Main Contractor: Laing Traditional Masonry Work: Pyeroy provided a specially designed 22m high ‘freestanding’ scaffold system which was fully sheeted over and utilised 250 tonnes of concrete Kentildege. The design allowed for the removal and replacement of the wall harlings using age old methods and materials as no power tools were employed on the job.
Construction
Client: Northern Rock Main Contractor: Taylor Woodrow Work: The fifteen month contract – completely on time and within budget – saw Pyeroy provide complete access services to support the new build of this large 12 storey office block located in Newcastle.
Outsourcing services
Client: FMC Kongsberg Subsea Main Contractor: Pyeroy Group Work: Pyeroy is managing the post-fabrication painting and finishing activities at offshore engineering structures’ manufacturer FMC. This includes operating the paint shop activities and providing permanent on-site staff, supported by additional skilled resources for particular projects or production increases.
